Abdullahi Ganduje, Kano state governor, has directed the reducing of wages and allowances of political office holders by 50%, in view of the current economic crisis in the state.

The politicians, whose salaries are in trouble, are the governor, Deputy Governor, Hafiz Abubakar, all the 13 commissioners, special advisers and others.

Ganduje announced on June 19, that the state administration will no longer give free food and drinks during Ramadan fast as had been the practice in the previous times.

The governor speaking while inaugurating the new commissioners lamented that the state and the nation are facing cash crunch and need to cut the pay of officials and appointees.

He said the action was part of the forfeit he and others will fund for the survival of the administration.

Ganduje assured residents that when things get better politicians will be rewarded for their losses.

Kano is the second state after Kaduna to cut wages of public officials in the last three weeks. Nasir El-Rufai, Kaduna state governor, had earlier declared similar measures.
Kaduna governor also slashed the number of ministries from 19 to 13.
There were indications that President Muhammadu Buhari may have reduce his own salary and cut his personal allowances.
The Federal Government has started the process for the downward review of the existing salaries and allowances of political, public and judicial office holders.

I learnt this is exactly what the EBONYI-STATE Government is planning to do.... With the formal Gov Elechi introducing minimum wage payment in about two weeks before Elections, the new Government of Dave Umahi is kinda trying to reduce salaries of public servants by 50% so as to continue with the minimum wage payment having considered the state Allocation.

Its fine doh buh i think Fifty percent is much..... Though the payment favours everyone

A reduction of even 75% of their salary and the scrapping off of unnecessary allowances is still very ok. Its not a position to come and feed fat. It should be a position to serve. If you don't like it as a politician, don't accept any appointment when nominated and don't contest for any public office. Only in Nigeria you will ask a man what is your occupation and he will say I am a politician. Nonsense.
