A former North American Bureau Chief of The Guardian, Laolu Akande,has been appointed as the Senior Special Assistant to lead the media and communication unit of the office of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Vanguard reports.

Naij.com, citing Premium Times yesterday June 21, reported that Laolu Akande was set to be appointed as spokesperson in the office of vice president. An appointment which was to take effect on Monday or Tuesday.

Laolu Akande who became a pastor in 2007 at the Redeemed Christian Church of God has carved a niche for himself in journalism dating back to The Guardian in 1989.

As a journalist in the diaspora, he has had exclusive interviews with several prominent persons including bill Gates, Donald Trump, General Colin Powell, and former president, George W. Bush while he was still atthe white house, among others.
Laolu Akande has also worked for other leading Nigerian papers like The News Magazine in 1993, Nigerian Tribune in 1995, before he relocated to the US in 1998.

In the US he worked for leading American newspapers including the Philadelphia Inquirer, and New York Newsday.

At the time of his appointment he was running his own news agency known as The Empowered Newswire.
