Fasting period requires a lot of patience, abstinence and perseverance. Balancing your high stress

job, everyday commute in traffic and other tasks with keeping well-balanced for Ramadan can be

daunting. If you find yourself struggling with staying focused during the holy month, Jovago.com

has compiled some tips that can help you.

Plan your meals

Planning is essential to everything in life. Make plans for what you are going to eat at Suhur and Iftar

ahead. Stock up on fruits, vegetables, carbs, protein and other food that will keep your energy level

up throughout the day.

Make a list

It helps to be organised. As your energy level might start declining at some point during the day,

making a list of things to do according to level of importance will help in accomplishing the most

pressing tasks. The list will help you visualise the things to prepare for and what activities you might

want to shelve till after fasting.

Set up alarm

Set a timer for things you need to do. It is quite likely you start a task and totally forget to spend

some time on your prayer or meditating. With a timer, you can better manage your time and cue up

activities that great for the fasting period

Avoid Distraction

If you are at work, try and patiently take on your duties. The earphones have become a universal

‘Please do not disturb’ sign. You can listen to any recitation of the Quran from any Islamic scholar or

Quran reciter of your choice. Focus on it and your work. This will help in limiting the unnecessary

conversations you might otherwise get involved in. When in public transport, avoid engaging in

arguments. You can spend the timing reading Islamic publications online.

Be conscious of everything you do during this period. Make a deliberate effort to spend time

praying, meditating and performing charity. Try as much as possible to avoid all activities that can

easily wear you out.
