when you are talking to someone who is vivaceous, lots of charm, a great smile and a glint in their eyes, you can see them as a very attractive person and quite alluring.
A photograph freezes a moment in time, and it can be hard to capture the personality, then on looking at the picture you really study the face and realise the person isn't so attactive - it might be that the proportions aren't quite right, the shape too asymmetric etc, things which you don't see when the person is moving and talking.
