There is no holding back in the dealings of God. When He wants you, He wants all of you. When He starts with you, He starts with your love.
God's view of love is something that is beyond being pleased with Him or appreciating Him when the going is good. Anybody would like somebody if they made things go well with and satisfied them. God appreciates that but He wants to see that you love Him even if things do not go well and you know that He has the power to make it well.

It may be difficult to prove that you are able to love God this way when the going is good, so He may have to test your love for Him by "letting you down". He may take everything that you have or thought you had and disappoint every of your hope in Him. He may push you till you just want to "curse God and die".
Like Jesus and Job while they were undergoing their own tests of love, you may call on God and He wont answer you.

God wants to see that you truly live Him. He wants also to see that you believe that He loves you. It could be tricky to still accept that God loves you in this situation. You may tend to believe that He is indifferent to you, or that He hates you. You may in fact blame yourself.
It is allowed to wonder, but you must not wonder too much and accept God's supremacy like Job did, then commit yourself into His hands like Jesus did. Do this and wait on Him for your trouble to pass.

Accepting God's supremacy (and appreciating it) despite your troubles makes you more in love with Him. Committing yourself into His hands shows that you still believe that He loves you despite not answering your plea for change.
God will see this and be pleased with you. And when the night passes with your troubles and morning comes, He will be so happy with you that He wont keep anything from Him in heaven and on earth. And you will be happy again.
Your moment of trouble is a time to know God and fall in love with Him. It shall pass.

Whoever God wants to love to such an extent that others will envy must pay such a price first, so that God will not be accused of being partial.
