Whether we intend to or not, we all find ourselves making assumptions about the people we meet based on the smallest amount of information. If someone is rude to us when we're introduced, it is all too easy to assume they're always like that and to make no effort to see them again.

On the other hand, if someone is conversational and welcoming when we meet, we're more likely to want to get to know them better. It is this tendency that makes a first impression so important. A good first impression is so crucial to the development of any new relationship.
