46k? Are u seriously, serious! o boy this is just too much, they should understand that this pay will kill our currency both in local and international market cos it will be much money in circulation and also revaluation of naira, they should understand that this idea will make food, gas, rent daily need in general to increase, they should understand that most private sector won't be able to pay or increase and they will lay off their workers, unemployment rate will increase too...there is so much demerits behind this idea, this our leader sha, do they think before the act?

So you mean that earning what is fair would make the iyaloja pay the farmer more for their produce, or the landlord would decide to increase rent just because his tenant now earns more, or gas would go up in price because production costs would increase, or transportation would increase because the bus conductor and driver are also civil servants.

Your argument is both insensitive and dead on arrival, this is not an increase in the wages of the private sector but that of the civil servants. With all honesty they deserve more. That 50,000 surely is not even enough.

I don't know where you studied your economics but wages are increased to match cost of living, the cost of living does not increase due to public wages. The whole idea is to have more disposable income stimulating trade increasing purchasing power and attracting foreign investment. A reasonable government should also see an avenue to receive a sizable amount in the form of PAYE

You mean a fair pay would lead to inflation, what we need to do is curtail our waste and cut the wages and allowance political staff who earn ridiculous amounts.

How can you expect a man to survive on N18,000 monthly, that is meant to cover shelter, nutrition, transport, upkeep of family members, health care over a 30 day period. And even worse many of these people have not been payed over 4 months.

Ofcause crime would be high, fraud and corruption would be high in the service and many people would be willing to turn the blind eye for compensation within the service.

Anyone who insinuates that they don't work hard shoukd query their souls , "how much work would you do for 18000 ! , in a nation where there is no medical welfare, tertiary education in government universities cost a fortune.

How is a civil servant on 18000 going to ever be able to send his children to school, or offer a better future for his kids. The best he can offer is far less than what his parents offered him.
u supposed know say he no sabi wetin dey. . . .

I agree with the N46k minimum wage, but on the basis that staff must be rationalized and staff productivity raised and monitored. We have too many staff in our ministries, agencies and parastatals that do nothing all day and add no value. I went to the federal civil service buidling in Port Harcourt to renew my passport recently and the amount of immigration staff seen loitering or in offices doing absolutely nothing was mind boggling!!! And yet they continue to recruit!!!

Every job position must be assessed and SMART(Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and TimeBound) job descriptions given with Service Level Agreements..and published for that matter so that the public and the civil service administration can assess the level of productivity and mete out consequence management for those who fall below the standards.
