Drop The Internet Slang/acronyms Or Abbrv With Their Meaning That You Know by zaho1(m): 2:36pm On Jul 17, 2015
If we were to assume the Internet is a country then she will be the
most populated country in the world. The Internet can sometimes
be a confusing place even for someone using it everyday.

In reality, the Internet slang language evolves everyday and can
transform a language itself. In fact, it might probably end up being
a language itself.

The Internet is filled with slang words and Acronyms and we might
have possibly come across one or two words we can't just figure
what they truly mean.

I have compiled most of the popular slang words, abbreviation and
acronyms mostly used in the Internet today.

1. Bae: Before Anyone Else / Babe

The modern dictionary describe Bae as a Danish word for poop
but the Internet thinks is a term of endearment: either an acronym
for “before anyone else” or a short form of “babe”. Not too long
ago, pop stars Pharrell and Miley Cyrus turned it into a song,
“Come get it, bae.”

2. AMA: Ask Me Anything

Ask me anything first started with Reddit where an expert on a
subject fields open questions. It is now used more widely on the
Internet, with any sort of public Question and Answer being
termed an AMA. For example:
“Good day, I am Da genius, c.e.o of Nigeria popular blog
geniusvilla, AMA!”

3. Dafuq: What The F**k

Ths first time you will come across the word dafuq you will think
it's a legitimate word. Well, it's not. Try pronouncing it with a
black American ascent and you will get the idea.

4. ELI5: Explain Like I’m 5

This is used to ask for a break down of complex explanation or
words. Mostly used by people who have mostly not enough idea on
tech, science and slangs.

5. HIFW: How I Felt When

This is popularly and mostly used on Twitter. HIFW is paired with
an image, video, or a hilarious reaction GIF when words aren’t
enough.

6. ICYMI: In Case You Missed It

ICYMI is used as a precaution when you aren’t sure if other
people already know about something, or when you are repeating
something you have said before. It’s a way of saying, “You might
have already seen this, but if not, you can see it now.”

7. IDGAF: I Don’t Give A F***

This simply means what it means in English. "I-DONT-GIVE-A-
Bleep." not too long ago music artist Big Sean used it for his
song.
8. IMO / IMHO: In My Opinion / In My
Humble Opinion

IMO is the polite way to express your opinions without making it
sound like you are proclaiming a universal truth or claiming you are
smarter than everyone.

IMHO is the way to do that while seeming humble, or at least
pretending to.

9. IRL: In Real Life

In real life is used to inform people what you are doing or seeing in
real life.

10. JSYK: Just So You Know

JSYK is more like "FYI = For Your Information." But its the more
advanced term that replaced FYI. so, JSYN the term FYI is old
school and you should port if you are still using it.

11. NSFW: Not Safe For Work

When i first came across NSFW the first thought that came to my
mind was "need for speed" then i quickly figured that the letters
weren't properly arranged.

NSFW is like a warning message tag to videos to alert people not
to view if they are in their workplace.

12. NSFL: Not Safe For Life
More like the NSFW function the NSFL is used for warning
message against life.

13. SMH: Shaking My Head

This is another Slang Word that confused me the first time i saw
it. I thought it was (Somehow ). But this is a popular one used to
convey your disappointment at someone doing or saying something
utterly stupid.

14. TL;DR: Too Long; Didn’t Read

The Internet is full with maniacs who can write a book of just a
simple news or information rather than give the points and end it.
sometimes, you just want the basic nugget and not read the whole
thing.

TL;DR or TLDR was invented to be used in alerting crazy
posters that you can't read everything because it's too long.

15. YOLO: You Only Live Once

Many people might already know this as popular rap artist Ice
Prince used it a lot in one of his hit song titled "Whiskey."

YOLO is a justification for doing something that you probably
shouldn’t be doing, but want to do it anyway. It’s also used
ironically as commentary on someone else doing something idiotic.
Among many popular others you might or have already know
because of it's frequent usage includes :

¶ - LOL = laughing out loud.
¶ - TTYL = Talk to you later.
¶ - GTG = got to go.
¶ - BRB = be right back.
¶- WUU2 = what are you up to.
¶- OMG = oh my God.
¶- DM/PM = Direct Message / Private message.
