A Layman's Handbook to Aluminum Welding Solar is one of the most promising green energy sources in the world. Solar technology was pioneered and popularized in Western industrialized nations but has now spread rapidly into the developing world, with China and India some of the most eager adopters of solar power. Solar power is broadly generated by two main generation models – large, ground-mounted solar farms and distributed photovoltaic solar panels found on the rooftops of offices, shops, factories and homes. Most of these solar panels are manufactured with monocrystalline or polycrystalline technologies.

A photovoltaic solar panel is a large flat rectangle made up of many individual solar energy collectors called solar cells covered with a protective sheet of glass. They are sometimes called photovoltaic (PV) cells because they use sunlight to make electricity. Solar panels generate electricity either as individual units or as part of a solar array – many solar panels combined together.

A photovoltaic solar panel captures electromagnetic radiation from the sun using the solar cells, which are made with two layers of a semiconducting material called silicon. When this radiation is absorbed, a chemical reaction occurs in the cells, which breaks up electrons from atoms. The free electrons jump around to generate electricity which cannot yet be used. They have to reach the electric field at the junction between the layers of silicon; once they get close enough to reach the junction into the top layer of silicon a force pushes the electrons out of the cell and into metal conductor strips embedded in the cell, generating electricity.

In this solar generation process, a solar panel creates direct current (DC) electricity which flows into a solar inverter and other electrical safety devices. The inverter converts that DC power into alternating current (AC). AC power is the kind of electric juice used by electronic products ranging from servers and printers to televisions, computers and even toasters.

Once a solar panel or solar array is installed it can be left to generate clean electricity. Photovoltaic solar panels don’t produce any harmful carbon emissions and they don’t make noise. They just sit there and do their job.

It is important to understand how does a solar panel work in order to maximize their efficiency. Once you do that, you will be able to save money on bills each month, and enjoy green energy in the same time.
