Amanda knew that being a mother would be very difficult, especially for her. Sometimes she would loose her appetite due to the nausea of her pregnancy. It was a difficult pregnancy for her since it was her first, she bled in the early weeks, and the doctor thought she might miscarry. Then she began having painful contractions after her seventh months, putting her in a danger of premature delivery. Finally, during the last month of pregnancy, she noticed that her feet was swollen all day and night, and she was gaining more weight than normal. Her doctor informed her that her blood pressure was high although it had been normal all along. The doctor further told her that her change of condition was due to pre-eclampsia; a condition in which high blood pressure and body swelling, along with protein in the urine develop during the second half of pregnancy. The woman may not feel sick but will have persistent headache. Some may develop visual disturbance, seeing flashing lights or stars that doesn’t exist.
