Please I don't know if this question has even been asked on this forum, but is it right (or wrong) to eat that 1st slice of bread or even the last one.
Most people I know serve it to their dogs.

Rubbish!

So they don't wear gloves to pack the first and last slices but they wear gloves to pack the rest of the bread slices in the middle?

Those that make any sense to you at all?

So basically, the last slice is placed in the bag without the baker/packer wearing gloves, then gloves are worn to place the slices in the middle and then the gloves are removed to place the first slice?

I think it's just personal reference.

Sometimes I eat it, sometimes I don't - depending on how "brown" the bread is.

For the un-sliced bread, sometimes I slice off the top and bottom part and bin it.

Your intelligent quotient should increased by 10 % with what I said earlier... By the way have you been to a bakery where slice bread is been produced before I give you correct words that will make you lock your Nairaland account permanently you this educated illiterate
