I've had similar experiences with Naija police, I don't even bother begging them. Their natural expectation is that you will be begging them, may be not just talking will throw them off a bit.
Me and a friend came out of a bank in Lagos a few years ago and were double-crossed out of no where by the police. They requested us to step out of the car and they started searching us. I had went to deposit at a bank, not to withdraw, so I had no cash on me. After their search, they really found nothing.
They requested my ID, I gave it to them. I had not lived in Nigeria for a long time and my only ID was a foreign drivers license in my wallet. One the officers would then say "You are in big trouble. You will have to bail yourself out in US dollars".

I wasn't driving, my banker friend was. I wasn't sure if he violated any traffic rules. When they stopped talking to him and focused on me, I knew something was wrong and tried hard to understand what my crime was.
I guess my friend knew how to handle them and they let him go, but I was bundled in their car with them. No explanation of my offence was given.

I called my brother who came to meet with them somewhere, paid them what they wanted and I was released.

Similar occurrences have occurred to me and other folks I know afterwards, so this isn't new.

May be the entire Nigerian police needs to be scrapped and replaced by state police for respective states, or local governments. It works like that in the US; each city has its own police. Currupt/efficient police units can be easily differentiated that way. When the bosses of respective jurisdictions are rated based on their actual police work, they'll have no choice but to make sure those under them are disciplined.

Which serious country runs police service (not Force even) like we do? We are just not ready to move forward yet. A corrupt, inept and poorly equipped police in a place run from Abuja with such massive security issues is a sign of our failure as a nation. sad

This is one of reason why policemen don't live good lives. Just check the after-life of a policeman. They usually end up poor, wretched and struck down with various sicknesses like stroke and HBP.

Police are a product of our society, and I embrace them, their actions, their personality, wholeheartedly. I never expect them to be great, I never react, I simply play along.

Unfortunately, the weak, in areas with high human rights abuses are at their mercies.
Re: My Near Death Experience With The Nigerian Police - DIARY Of A Jobless Youth by Nobody: 7:03pm On Aug 29, 2015
The truth is that they were intimidating you and making u scared to da bones cheesy

The funny part is that they robbed u, or na u submit to them sef.

See ehn! The truth is that when a policeman starts shouting at u, imagine how they run away during robbery attacks then remain calm.
Don't even answer back no matter what cos they want to kill u(if they want o) , they will... So the best thing is to be silent.
After the whole drama, claim to be the son of a lawyer or General grin. Insist on calling ur lawyer. Make it obvious that u are staring at their number tags.

I remember sometime in 2005 at about 8pm or so, in nyanya by mobile base or so. I visited a friend and he and his girlfriend saw me off. While we were at the bus stop, I took the guy aside to give him gist, just for d girlfriend to start shouting and we looked. Police were forcefully pushing her into their van. We came and explained, they said we should come to nyanya police station.
That's how we went there, they already put d girl behind d counter waiting for us, and put other girls in d cell. And we settled them for no just reason. And left.
My brother told me of one time in onitsha, bus landed at the bus stop calling ochanja market, people entered, not knowing both driver and conductor were policemen, they drove them to CPS onitsha. And that's how all man started bailing themselves

Is people like u that doesn't want to suffer that always rush to give them money for ur release. If ur I'd is real and u ve not committed any offense, why then will ur bros pay for ur freedom. Next time let ur bros get a family lawyer. Police don't like case. Stop corrupting the police.

A friend told me bout his experience one day on his way to work one morning.
Two policemen arguing with a guy, as early as 5:30 am in the morning.
The man refused to join them in their vehicle, and they were forcing him in but he kept asking them why they wanted to arrest him since it was obvious he was on his way to work and late for that matter.
after some minutes of dragging with the guy, next thing was to shoot the guy on the leg and dumped him by the roadside there and left.
The guy was bleeding and crying. Nobody could help him since it was a gunshot and any attempt to take him to the hospital will need police report.

He later died from severe bleeding. Nigerian policemen are the worst set of people to ever encounter on earth.

There are some experiences that we would have in life and they would stay with us for the rest of our lives. Some are good and some are bad, some you will never even deem it fit to tell anyone and some you will always tell anyone that cares to listen. I had passed through a lot of not so good times in my life, but this I must say, was the worst of all.

I could remember vividly that year 2007 ,was in my 4th year on campus and was rounding off my IT Program, which we always did then on campus as agricultural students. I was actually coming from John's hostel in camp and it was around 7:30pm. There was so much traffic along the Abeokuta -Ibadan express road, so I had spent close to 40minutes on a journey that was supposed to be less than 5 minutes.

The moment the traffic cleared and we were now assuming the normal movement of a traveller on an express road, I felt a little bit relieved as it had been a moment of cursing, fanning, wishing you had taken a bike, but were was the money self. I only had 20Naira on me, which was all I needed to take the transport.

On getting to my bus stop. I told the driver to stop when he sees a parking space. When he saw one and was about parking at the corner of a street, a white pick-up van just bashed out of nowhere and it almost hit our vehicle. Reflexively, we started cursing the occupants of the van. Were they blind to have almost hit us? I cursed the more, because if anything had happened, I would have been more involved because their Van actually barged out through my side.

Before we knew what was happening. The van stopped and some fiecre looking, gun-wielding men just came out of the van and were coming towards our vehicle. I knew that was it, it has finally set for me, I thought to myself that When friends used to tell me to stop the way I curse people and talk derogatorily, I turned blind ears, now the act is taking me to hell, because I was even so certain I was a sinner. I even thought of asking for God's forgiveness before they got to me, because I was not sure if that was the last moment I would have on earth.

The men initially didn't come to us. They went towards the 4 tyres of the vehicle and deflated them with their guns. I knew I was in hot soup. Then they approached us and asked who said were they blind. The driver didn't hesitate to point his finger at me, as it was obvious he was already pissing in his pants too.

They simply asked me to come down from the cab and asked me to kneel. I did, but I was really and totally scared because one was right behind me. I immediately remembered those action movies where people were eliminated right on their knees through a shot from the back. The man standing before me asked what I used to call them blind and I fidgetly replied it was with my mouth. He then asked me to blow up my cheeks like I was going to blow air into a balloon and gave me a hot slap. I fell to the ground and rose immediately.

He asked if a blind man could give that kind of hot slap and I said No Sir. He then asked who was blind, I replied that it was me and all my friends that were blind, that I was sorry to have said that. I wasn't really myself at that moment because I was not yet sure if they were robbers or Security Operatives, and to make matters worse, no one in that area could summon the courage to approach them and ask what was happening.

They asked the driver if he had anything on him like cash to part with. He instantly dropped the whole content of his pocket. They said he was free. I knew from that moment the Round 2 of my slap was about coming, because I had nothing on me. The man asked who I was and I told him I was a student, thinking that would make him have compassion on me, but the next thing he said totally got me out of my skin and I thought it was just a matter of days before I said goodbye to my friends and my enemies.

He said 'so you are among the cultists that have been terrorising this state'

'No, no, nooooooo sir' I managed to mutter out of my fear. I am just an ordinary student sir. Infact I was just coming from a friends side in Camp.

'Shut up, will you tell if you are a cultist? ' He shouted, but I didn't say anything.

'Answer me, idiot, will you tell if you are a cultist? ' He repeated.

'No sir, but........ '

'So you are a cultist ' he cut it. ' We are taking you to the Police Station '

I didn't know if I felt relieved knowing that they were not armed robbers or assassins. But giving it a 2nd thought, I got so totally shocked that I was being taken to the Station just for asking if the man that wanted to hit me with his car, was blind. Is that how the system has rotten off into? Were they even blind to see that I was just a teenager? Then I knew some people were just not fit to be called humans. I developed my hatred for policemen from that day on.

I was shoved into the Van and we drove down to the police station.

Is people like u that doesn't want to suffer that always rush to give them money for ur release. If ur I'd is real and u ve not committed any offense, why then will ur bros pay for ur freedom. Next time let ur bros get a family lawyer. Police don't like case. Stop corrupting the police.

That would have been a logical thing to do -getting a lawyer etc, but my flight back was on the next day. There was no time to really waste behind their bars, else it would have been costlier for me.

[size=18pt]The men in black are so terrible that even the devil constantly consults with them for latest wicked methods.
Calling them a devil incarnate is a rude understatement.
I dream of a Nigeria where arms will be legalized and I promise myself to gun down at least 5 of those wild animals daily.
SO HELP ME GOD!!!!!!!!!!
