Burial Of Man With Hunchback Causes Tension by emmy4topps12: 4:42am On Aug 08, 2015
The people of Omu-Aran in Kwara state have been gripped with fear following the reported burial of a man simply identified as Femi, who has a hunchback.

It was gathered that the tradition in that place forbids the burial of a person with hunchback in the community. Such a person’s corpse must rather be hanged on a tree otherwise an evil will befall the community, NAN reports.

Femi and four others had died in a car accident on August 3, while travelling from Omu-Aran to Lagos.

According to one of the residents, who pleaded anonymity, Femi’s relatives may have already buried him in secret to safeguard the body from ritualists.

“You know there are many traditions and ancient beliefs in this part of the world. I think it is the fear that such body might be used for ritual purpose that forced the relatives to have a rethink and decided otherwise,” the source said.

Though relatives of the deceased have kept mute on the matter, some residents have begun hanging Jatropha leaves, locally called Lapalapa, on the entrance to their houses, to ward-off calamity.

Speaking on the matter, Pastor David Omorinoye, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Irepodun local government, advised people refrain from ungodly acts but should rather, which is the key to every unpleasant situation.

In his own reaction, Alhaji Abdul Azeez Adeniyi, Chief Olupona of Omu-Aran, said:

“As far as Islam is concerned such belief is fictitious and without any basis. We should rather devote our time to seek the face of Allah through constant prayers for the growth, progress and development of our communities.”

Some of these superstitious beliefs are strictly adhered to by faithless church-goers.

I miss Omu-Aran... Used to chill out at P-County Resort with my boo then!!!
