El Rufia Embarks On Demolition Despite Electoral Promises by chiddy158: 2:01pm On Aug 08, 2015
Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, on Wednesday began the demolition of illegal structures in the state contrary to his electoral promise to the people of Kaduna

El-Ruria, during his governorship campaign promised the people of Kaduna State that he will not demolish any community in the state as being speculated or championed by his opponents, if elected their governor

But two months after taking oath of office, the Governor in a town hall meeting in Zaria, announced that any illegal building erected in carved out areas would be demolished.

According to him, such illegal structures on lands belonging to public institution would be demolished

On Wednesday 5th, August, El-Rufia began the demolition of houses and business premises in Kaduna and Zaria

Defending his action, the governor said the operation is not the same as a “demolition exercise “but recovery of government lands

The governor Speaking through his Spokesman, Samuel Aruwan, in a statement said “It has become important to let the public know that what we embarking tomorrow (today) is not the same as demolition. What we are doing is the recovery of lands belonging to schools, hospitals, Libraries etc which some powerful people have carved out and allocated to themselves.

“We are doing this because no one has any right to infringe on such lands for his private use to the detriment of the future plans of such institutions.

Some prominent indigenes of Kaduna are kicking against the actions of the governor, notable among them is the Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani.

Mr. Sani accused the governor of introducing unpopular policies and also running a government that does not consider the interest of the people of the state.

He said that he never intended to be in discord with the present Kaduna administration, but Governor El-Rufai’s policies are harsh, inconsiderate and anti-people.

“He has to take consideration of the fact that he met people that were impoverished, that were muscled, harassed and demoralized by the government of the PDP. So, first of all, they don’t need harsh policies that will further impoverish and alienate them. We need to carry them along, taking cognisance of the situation which we find them in. I fundamentally differ with him on that issue. For that reason, he has decided on his own not to even appoint people who identify with me in anyway and who are also seen to be from my camp.” Sani said.

As Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, El-Rufai embarked on massive destruction of buildings, which he declared as illegal structures

Leave out sentiment, stay away and never allow any one to lure you into taken illegal possession of gov't landed property. Even if this was discovered after payment, do everything to recover your money. People bank on closeness to those in power corridor to convert gov't land to personal use only to start sucking and lamentation when the issue is revisited.
