Investors are happy that Google created a Parent
company Alphabet but German Automaker BMW is
not smiling because the brand name Alphabet
belongs to one of its subsidiaries that helps
corporations manage their vehicle fleet.
Alphabet is also the name that Google have given
their parent company entity.



“We are not planning to sell the domain,” said
Micaela Sandstede, a BMW spokeswoman in Munich.


She described the website as a “very active” part of
Alphabet’s business. BMW is planning to examine if
any copyright infringements has taken place.
But according to the United States Patent and
Trademark Office, just because one company uses a
name does not mean another company cannot use it.

Trademark infringement occurs only if another
company’s use could create confusion with
consumers.

Google has made inroads into the auto industry. It
offers an Android OS version for use in cars and
research on self-driving vehicles.




With all these one has to wonder did Google google
Alphabet before announcing it? Your guess is as good
as mine.
