As an Ife prince from Lafogido/Adagba, whoever assumes the office must build upon the foundation of the late monarch, regardless of whether or not the candidate was a partisan of the departed. It is to empower the Ife kingdom, south west and Nigerians at large. What is needed to compete with other countries and kingdom is INDUSTRY AND TECHNOLOGY. The Ife indigenes and Nigerian citizens want to enjoy the good life. What is needed is power, new housing projects, new market squares with allocated units, new hospitals with cutting-edge technologies to compete with the western hemisphere. Majority of the indigenes are living in sub-standard accommodation with poor hygiene and are looking for a leader who will train them to become smarter, rich and influential, too!

It has been rightly said, on the selection processes of the next Ooni , the kingmakers would pick one person from all Ife Princes that show interest in the stool and Ifa oracle would be consulted on the choice before the final ratification by the chief priest.
When ever there is a demise of Ooni, the kingmaker and the Ifa Oracle will pick the next Ooni. 10 or 20 princes may contest after they might have been presented by their families, but the Ifa priest will consult the oracle that will choose while Lowa of Ile-Ife, High Chief Joseph Olasoji Ijaodola as the kingmaker will perform the necessary rituals that will certify him to mount the throne of Ooni; without this rituals, such potential monarch would not be Ooni.

This is the work of the state government, assembly members (both state and federal) and local governments chairman and councillors. The oba has nothing to do with all what you listed.

What you guys should be demanding in osun is accountability from your elected government officers. The oba position is more of ceremonial and for the preservation of the tradition just like in other parts of the world.

The oba collects a meagre salary from the state government and won't use his own personal wealth to feed the people of ife/osun. He has family too. It would even be worse if he is a rich oba, rich people are usually shrewd with their money and businesses and don't usually make good traditional rulers.

The kind of oba ife needs right now is one that would hold the tradition in high esteem, free from interference of politics and the likes. An oba that is very knowledgeable in culture and tradition just like the Omo N'Oba N'Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba of Benin or Awujale. Not an oba that will create controversies, mockery of the throne and make ife the laughing stock of the world, alive or after his demise.
