Ace Yoruba comedian, Chief Moses Adejumo Olaiya popularly known as Baba Sala who was hospitalized, over his deteriorating health, at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, penultimate Monday, has been discharged.

This disclosure was made yesterday by the Head, Public Relations Unit, University College Hospital, Ibadan, Mr. Deji Bobade while speaking with Vanguard in a telephone interview.
According to Bobade, the octogenarian had fully recovered and was perfectly alright before being discharged.

He said, “Yes, Baba Sala has been discharged. We discharged him after giving him necessary medical care. He was on admission at the teaching hospital for a week. If he was not alright, we could not have discharged him.”

Pa Adejumo who is reputed for his rib-cracking comedy in his hey days, was rushed to the teaching hospital by his son, Mr. Emmanuel Adejumo Olaiya, even as anxiety mounted about the health status of the comedian.

Many people from various parts of the country started calling to ascertain what happened to the comedian. But, his son, repeatedly told newsmen that his father was responding to treatment.
He had told Vanguard then, “Baba Sala felt uncomfortable on Saturday and he was taken to Adewale Hospital in Ilesa and he was better. But, on Sunday, he felt sick again and was returned to the hospital.

The doctor said he would need oxygen to treat him properly. It was then our sister who is a matron in UCH, decided that we should bring him to Ibadan since the doctors’ strike had ended. There is no serious cause of his discomfort but I think it is old age. The symptom is common to old people,” he added.

Baba Sala who was rushed to the UCH, Ibadan, from Ilesa, Osun State, penultimate Monday, over age-related illness, it was learnt was asked to come for a follow-up treatment as an outpatient.

Recall that over the last two weeks, the social media was awashed with reports that there was serious concern about the health of the foremost Yoruba comedian, Baba Sala, but in a swift reaction, his son, Emmanuel Moses Olaiya quickly clarified that his father was alive and even demanded for pounded yam last Tuesday.

“The first thing my father did after he was resuscitated was to ask for pounded yam,”Emmanuel told newsmen.

Also recall that the Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mr. Deji Bobade, had dispelled rumours of Baba Sala’s deteriorating health, affirming that the comedian was alive and responding to treatment.
