How to overcome sinful habits: Step 1.
1. Disclose Your Ordeal to Someone.
"Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" (James 5:16).
Addictions like pornography, drunkenness, fornication, etc are hard to fight individually. They excel in secrecy. When you leave it today, you easily go back tomorrow because no one is monitoring your healing progress.

The consciousness alone that someone is monitoring your freedom from an addiction restrains you from experiencing a relapse.
You will mostly likely return to your vomit when no one is aware of your efforts to break free from a sinful habit.

Again you can't keep praying alone. Approach someone who is well-proven to be more spiritually sound and reserved in speech to join you in prayers.
"Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 18:19).

However you should not make the mistake of sharing your ordeal with a proven wide-mouthed believer or preacher. If your local pastor is an expert in broadcasting sensitive confidential information about others during service especially when he is angry, please look for a pastor elsewhere. Don't say I didn't warn you!

In addition, issues of sinful habits must strictly be disclosed in trust and faith in the hearer's ability to manage privately.

Hello, two are better than one! (Ecclesiastes 4:9). The spirit behind sinful habits hate being exposed. I am saying this to you by the HOLY GHOST. Your freedom begins the day you boldly speak to someone about. You might in the end not need prayers. Just break the silence! Tell someone who has a greater measure of of the HOLY GHOST than yourself.
"How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?" (Romans 10:14).
Every believer needs a preacher over them.

Your attempt to keep trying to break free by yourself will plunge you into depression and self-sought separation from the brethren. You will begin to alienate yourself from church activities because of an inner feeling of spiritual filthiness.

This is the first step. The second step is underway.
May you be emboldened by the HOLY GHOST to take this first important step towards your freedom in JESUS' name!

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God" (Philippians 4:6).

"Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine" (1Timothy 4:13).
