Airtel Nigeria, has launched MatchUp, a social
networking portal that connects users with those who
share similar interests and profiles with them.
“The service is a medium for Airtel customers to
connect with each other for various reasons including
friendship, dating and business relationships among
others,” Airtel says in a news release.
But who are we kidding? Dating appears to be the real
purpose of this product. All anyone has to do is check
MatchUp’s homepage.
MatchUp is one of the startups who won NGN 1 million
($5000) grant each and support at the Airtel catapult-
A-Startup competition from earlier in 2015.
“At some point, people want to relate with others who
are in the same field or share common interests,” said
Maurice Newa, chief commercial officer at Airtel
Nigeria, “It can be students in the same field or
professionals who render similar services, better still,
youths or singles who want to initiate friendships or
relationships.”
The portal features rooms where subscribers meet to
“discuss diverse issues” part of a news release from
Airtel stated.
Airtel has been launching a series of startups from the
list of startups that won at its startup competition back
in February. The company also recently launched
Yuzah , the Diesel on Demand startup, and will most
likely launch more of them in the coming months. Here
