The position is located at the UNODC Country Office in Nigeria, Abuja (CONIG). The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer/Head of Programme Support Team (PMO/HPST) and the overall guidance of the UNODC Representative. The Research Officer (Coordinator) will work under the technical supervision of the Chief of the Statistics and Surveys Section (SASS), UNODC headquarters Vienna. S/he will work also in close collaboration with the Core Project Teams in CONIG and UNODC HQs staff.


Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in statistics, quantitative sociology, demography, environmental sciences, agronomy, geography, social sciences or related fields is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience in the collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of social or related statistical data at the national or international level and in programme management is required. Experience in the development, implementation and/or supervisions of large-scale surveys in areas such as agriculture, environment, drug use, corruption, crime, or other socio-economic area, is required. Practical experience in the design and implementation of technical assistance and training programmes in at least one of the subject area (crops, drugs or corruption) is required. Full proficiency in computer skills and use of relevant software and other applications is required. Experience in the use of geographic information technologies such as remote sensing, geographic information systems and satellite-based position systems for land and environmental resources planning and management is an asset. Experience with the design and implementation of surveys in West Africa is an asset. Work experience with the United Nations system or similar international organizations is an asset. Experience with EU funded projects is an advantage.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of other United Nations official languages is an asset.
