If the value of a life lived can be determined by the number of people she inspired to greatness, then she was a world leader of enormous stature. She was an English teacher whose passion for literature, love for people, and exuberance for life rubbed off on thousands over the years.

She had a way about her that caused her students to believe in themselves, to believe they were destined to accomplish great things. She taught her students to stretch their wings and fly, to live a life they love. In 35 years of teaching, she had spawned doctors and lawyers, artists and architects, poets and authors. She created a legion of men and women who went on to make name for themselves all across the country. She also maintained contact with many of them over the ensuing years and watched them take on the world.

She believed in her students, and convinced them to believe in themselves as well. She taught them to find a cause worth fighting for, to find a purpose in life bigger than they knew themselves to be. She challenged them to live passionately, to care about the world around them, and to leave their imprint on the world.

She passed away at 85 years of age, some 30 years after she had retired from teaching. Before she died, however, she left one final set of instructions for her former pupils. She did not want a single tear be wasted on her passing for she was proud of the life she had lived. Instead, in her wake, a reunion of her former students was to be held celebrating the contribution they as a group had made and were making to the world.
It was a massive student reunion. People came from near and far, former students of hers, ranging in age from 45 to 70 years old. Some were senior managers of companies and some had their own companies. Many were already retired, but they still fondly remember how instrumental she had been in their lives.

They came to commemorate one extraordinary teacher and the difference she had made. They also came to witness first-hand the difference they as a group were making. They compared notes on how they each had applied her teachings, and were awestruck by the enormity of her impact on their lives. It was a fitting tribute to one teacher's passion for teaching.
