THE MAN I EVIED

In my little years
When yet to ripe
For the business of the society
Those days of childhood

The men woke before the light
Up in the hill and
In the depth of the wood
They laboured, till the sun turn yellow

They never rest their weaken soul
Even while eating the heavy pounded yam
They swallowed the morsel
Like heavens is after them

And across the lane
Leading to my learning place
Lives a man with the 'world'
All children dream to be

Later in some years
Fortune made me meet
The daughter of the rich
And we made relationship

So, he laboured
The man outstanding the men
With all things of manhood
Even deprived his home of affection
