10 Things You Can Do To Grow Your Social Media Following Without Spending 1 Naira

If you’re new on social media, it can seem like a whole new jungle and may seem very difficult to grow a large following. Don’t lose hope though, here are a few simple tried and tested things you can do to grow your social media following.

Follow Influencers

The first step to growing your following is to identify the most influential people. Follow these influencers and regularly engage them. Sites like Buzzsumo can help you identify influential people in your industry.

Post Great Content Consistently

After you have identified and followed influencers, you need to make sure that when they come to your page, there’s some value for them there to follow you for. Key into the trending topics and post quality content around these. When people are excited to pass along your message, it adds additional branding and visibility to your account.

Identify People With A Large Following

An easy way of knowing if someone will follow you back is by checking how many people they are following. An account that follows a large number of people is more likely to follow you back.

Return favors

If a user retweets or favorites your tweets, always follow them back and try to engage them too. The more you reach out, the more folks will return and reciprocate – by following or making comments. You can apply this across all your social networks.

Make retweeting a habit: Take some time every day to retweet posts that you find interesting or informative. Chances are the more you retweet, the more people are willing to follow you back.

Take online networking offline

Nowadays people like to share their love of photography, makeup, exercise, fashion, food or any other passion. For instance if you are passionate about exercise, you can organize a run or walk and people will happily share photos and posts about it online. When you take social media offline, people will share photos of you along with your Twitter handle to their audience, in turn you will get more followers. This is a great way to start a conversation online and offline.

Showcase your skills – if you are in the creative industry, Twitter is a great place to show off your talents. Sharing relevant content about your skill will give you visibility to more admirers.

Post At Optimal Times

Use sites like Buffer to determine what days and time your followers are online the most. This way you can make sure to catch more people when you post. On Facebook, the evening on weekends are the best times to post, particularly around 8 pm, but this varies based on industry.

Track your brand mentions – it is usually advisable to use sites like Hootsuite to schedule posts across several social networks and also to keep track of what is being said about your brand online. Always respond to any mention and follow the users also to drive engagement.

Remain Visible

Perhaps the most important tip of all is to keep doing all of the above consistently to maintain your visibility. Apps like Zoto will help you quickly recharge your phone in case you run out of data mid post.

These tips will surely help you grow your social media following. Devote at least an hour every day to focusing on growing your social media. Do you have any additional tips that have worked for you? Let us know in the comments.
