Polio is an awful virus, which can make the life of someone miserable and must be fought tooth and nail with all hands on deck. There is a war against polio, which can be defeated if you are serious in winning the war in your locality.polio Polio affect both children and adult, this means no one is exempted from suffering from polio, unless we immunize ourselves or children with polio vaccine and that is what will make you go a step further in winning the war against polio. Polio is a crippling and highly fatal infectious disease caused virus. Polio can strike at any age in children under five years old. Polio is spread through person to person contact.

When a child is infected with the wild poliovirus, the virus enters the body through the mouth and multiplies in the intestine. It is then exposed to the environment through the faeces where it can spread rapidly through a community, especially in situations of poor hygiene and sanitation.Acute flaccid paralysis is a type poliomyelitis leads to irreversible paralysis, usually in the legs.
This is caused by the virus entering the blood stream and invading the central nervous system. As it multiplies, the virus destroys the nerve cells that activate muscles. The affected muscles are no longer functional and the limb becomes floppy and lifeless. There is no cure, but there are available safe and effective vaccines that can prevent one from having polio.

This is important to immunize children between ages of 8 months to 2 years. The World Health Organization on 25 of September 2015 took Nigeria off the list of polio-endemic countries, after not reporting any case of polio for more than one year. This is the first time Nigeria historically interrupted transmission of wild poliovirus, bringing the country and other African countries closer to being certified polio-free.
