Mina Stampede Casualties By Country by hemsquare(m): 6:30pm On Sep 29, 2015
As the number of Mina stampede
deaths continues to increase day by day,
media reports said that at least 1,100
people died in the crush of pilgrims, in the
worst disaster to befall the annual event in
a quarter of a century.
The new figure was announced by Pakistani
and Indian authorities who said that Saudi
Arabia has given foreign diplomats about
1,100 photographs of the dead from last
week's hajj crush and stampede.
The Saudi Health Ministry's latest figures,
released Saturday, put the toll at 769
people killed and 934 injured.
The stampede occurred last Thursday when hundreds
of pilgrims died and almost one thousand injured in a
stampede outside Makkah.
The stampede began at around 9:00 am (0600 GMT),
shortly after the civil defense service said on Twitter
it was dealing with a "crowding" incident in Mina,
about five kilometers (three miles) from Makkah.
The disaster was the second deadly accident to hit
worshippers this month. A crane collapse in the
nearby holy city of Makkah killed 109 people days
before the hajj.
Here follows the initial figures of Muslim casualties announced by diplomatic missions of different
countries:
Egypt:
Minister of Religious Endowments Mohammed Mokhtar Gomaa said Sunday that 55 citizens were
among the more than 700 people who died in a crush of Muslim pilgrims during this year's hajj in
Saudi Arabia.
He added that 120 Egyptian pilgrims were still missing and 26 are receiving treatment for injuries
sustained during the disaster in the town of Mina, near the holy city of Makkah.
