Captain Vincent Kompany is one of six players missing for Manchester City who face Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Kompany has a calf problem, and joins fellow defender Gael Clichy, midfielders Fabian Delph, Eliaquim Mangala and Samir Nasri and forward Wilfried Bony on the sidelines.

Yaya Toure and David Silva trained on Tuesday after overcoming injuries.

Manuel Pellegrini's side lost their opening Group D match to Juventus .

The Chilean said of the injury to Kompany: "I think it will be difficult for him to play for Belgium next week."

The national team face Andorra and then Israel in crucial Euro 2016 qualifiers on 10 and 13 October, respectively.

Like City, Borussia Monchengladbach also suffered defeat in their opening game, to Sevilla.

While the Germans have recovered from losing their first six Bundesliga matches with back-to-back league wins, City have lost their last two Premier League matches.

Pellegrini's men opened the campaign with five successive wins but, since losing 2-1 at home to Juventus, they have lost two out of three matches.

City defender Nicolas Otamendi told City's website: "I've always said that Champions League games are special; you have to give respect to your rival and it doesn't matter that they are not in their best moment.

"We were very unlucky to lose against Juventus because we were controlling the game but still didn't win - that can sometimes happen in football - but you must keep going and try to win the next game."

Meanwhile, City's journey to Germany on Tuesday did not begin as smoothly as expected when manager Pellegrini revealed in Tuesday's news conference he had brought the wrong passport to Manchester airport.

BBC Radio 5 live's Conor McNamara said the Chilean was picked up by a car outside the aircraft and brought back about 35 minutes later.
