Recently actress Viola Davis made history at this year’s Emmy Awards, and during her moving acceptance speech she shed light on how women of color are not offered the same opportunities as others within the world of Hollywood. Backpacking this notion, two photographers, Senegalese Omar Victor Diop and French-American Antoine Tempé, have also decided to voice their opinion on the diversity issue within entertainment by recasting iconic onscreen characters with the faces of black models. According to Huffpost Black Voices, back in 2013 the duo teamed up for their project [re-]Mixing Hollywood with the aim of using classic American and European films to create more dynamic images of African people.
The collaborative effort created a series made of 20 images captured throughout Senegal and the Ivory Coast. “Cinema is probably the form of art that is the most universal, as it transcends all barriers, be they geographic, cultural, or racial,” Diop and Tempé shared in their artist manifesto. From Breakfast At Tiffany’s to The Matrix, check out a few of the reimagined images below. For The Rest Of The Pictures, Click HERE: http://farabale.co/2015/09/30/a-photographer-reimagines-iconic-movies-with-black-characters/
