Local foods that contain iron include pumpkin leaves locally known as ugwu.Also okra is very rich in iron.Soy is also very rich in iron.TEN times more than that found in beef.A minor disadvantage is that vegetable sources contain the non haem iron.not esily absorbed by the gut.But this is easily remedied by taking them with vitamin c sources which increase absorption of iron in the gut.

# meats - beef, pork, lamb, liver, and other organ meats
# poultry - chicken, duck, turkey, liver (especially dark meat)
# fish - shellfish, including clams, mussels, and oysters, sardines, anchovies
# leafy greens of the cabbage family, such as broccoli, kale, turnip greens, and collards
# legumes, such as lima beans and green peas; dry beans and peas, such as pinto beans, black-eyed peas, and canned baked beans
# yeast-leavened whole-wheat bread and rolls
# iron-enriched white bread, pasta, rice, and cereals

try Iron supplements if you cant get all those, but i do suggest you try to get them through food though.

@poster
If you were diagnosed with iron deficiency with or without anaemia, please ask your doctor for the best treatment. Dietary intake alone may not be adequate for iron deficiency if the level is too low. You can try normal multivitamin tablets if you think you have not been eating much iron in your daily food. At least they contain 14 mg iron which is better than nothing at all. Are you pregnant? If you are, you need to take higher dose, so check with your local doc.
