As part of our social responsibility,OSC COLLEGE OF FASHION, lauches a free sewing machine operator certification course. The textile and apparel industry can become one of the largest segments of Nigeria ’s economy. It is also the largest employer in the manufacturing sector all over the world. In addition, millions of others rely on the textile and apparel industry for their livelihoods. But it is highly fragmented and under developed. Most apparel sector units are one man-run businesses having 5 to 10, 50-60 sewing machines, mostly making made to measure clothing, or often on contract to apparel wholesalers, usually using old production equipment and methods. There is a significant shortage of skilled manpower, essentially due to gaps in skill availability and skill needs. The need of the hour is to have a skilled workforce that will enhance productivity, profits and eventually contribute towards poverty alleviation. Sewing Machine Operators are at the entry level of the ecosystem. One of the standards set for a sewing machine operator is to be able to stitch a polo shirt in 20 minutes. With the right tools, technique and methods, this and much beyond can be achieved.
