The Knock She had prepared his favourite meal, The way he loved it, with the meat of a seal, She sat and waited for the door bell to ring, And the joy his smile will bring; She had laid his bed, The way he loves it with 4 pillows at the head, After the meal he will lay on it, To forget the war and the horrors in it; Then she thought she heard a knock on the door, She ran, her feet stabbing the floor, At door was the darkness and emptiness of space, Yet she could have sworn she saw his face; Maybe, just maybe He did not run out of luck, On the battlefield like the rest of the flock, She was told they all died at the hands of the enemies , But she knows her son, the bravest of them all, didn't; Its been days and her faith is weaning, His blood stained clothes they sent back is at the dry cleaning, Yet she waited at the door all night, Hoping she might one day come back to wear those clothes.
