HOW TO ASSESS PEOPLE (NON POLITICAL) "That lady is a flirt, forget about her" "You mean you want to work with that dude? I mean, he is a debtor and drinks too much" "I don't like that man, he is a womanizer" The above comments are used about a lot of people everyday when it comes to assessing their worthiness to a cause, job, or project. But is that really the criteria we should employ when assessing people? Should these be the qualities you focus on when you want to employ the services or partnership of that brilliant lady or guy in your organisation or project? I knew this dude once. Always drunk. People always made fun of him. But there was something special about him; he could fix ANY problem on a tractor or caterpillar. He did not even own a workshop. Most people would not go to him even if it meant taking their faulty machinery to mediocre mechanics around. But an Italian construction firm working in the area would always call on this drunk when their White engineers were overwhelmed by mechanical issues. And this drunk ALWAYS solved the problem. Despite his other weaknesses. That firm focused more on his innate positive abilities while trying to help him manage his excesses. King David in the Bible had flaws. Even had a man murdered in order to steal his woman. Had many women, enough to make modern day womanizers pale into insignificance. But God loved David, probably more than most. Ditto King Solomon, the wisest king. In today's extremely self righteous and vindictive world, we would have ignored the wisdom of Solomon and attack all his womanizing and other fallibilities. We would have hounded him and while he spent time trying to defray the attacks, he would never have built a house for God nor had time to utilize the wisdom he was blessed with. Methinks that many geniuses have been overlooked in life by some bosses or recruitment officers who were incapable of understanding genius. In today's fast moving world, out-of-box thinkers and doers are the greatest assets any organisation or society can have. To a very large extent, people ought to be assessed based on the quality they bring to an issue, rather than their frailties which, most times, are not connected to the job. True, some personal issues can have negative effects on other areas of an individual's life, but, its not often the case. If a certain Mr A possesses the best computer skills, i will use him, regardless of whatever is said about him by most people. Provided he does not have a criminal case. Infact, most geniuses are mavericks. Eccentric too. It takes a special organisation or boss to manage, support, and utilize their skill sets, to the advantage of society. I have seen many physically disadvantaged humans with extraordinary dexterity in various fields. Better than able bodied men. Why would i ignore them for anyone else. Wouldn't you rather play Cobhams' ORDINARY PEOPLE than Sky B's MA BABY? We need to change our methods when it comes to assessing anyone's usefulness. Sometimes, the ideas and concept that will uplift your business tomorrow may be in the head of that dude you already chased away last week. |

U might also employ someone who's reputation wil destroy ur company. Take for instance, (BH) shekau's son (who has no criminal case) is seekin employment in ur company, let's assume he's a genius and u knw it. Will u still employ him? Assume ur company is a media company dat involves a lot of publicity 1 Like |

op, ur personality has a big say in ur future. he could have solved the problem, but does dat mean a sane , normal person wouldn't solve it? would u allow a crazy good surgeon to operate on u over a good non crazy doctors? |

If the crazy good surgeon has a history of operating very well. And is very good at his job. Besides no medical practitioner would be allowed to work when he is crazy. Talk about other fields like crazy IT specialist or whatever. Just because someone is eccentric people are fast to tag it with mental disorder. |

The issue remains. Don't be in a haste to judge someone just because of public opinion. |
