Tips On How To Avoid or Escape Kidnap

Staying safe and secured becomes difficult once perceived to have political influence, or wealth or ties to some recognized western organizations or groups. The same fate applies to business travelers, significant government contractors, faith-based organizations and some well-known non-profit workers. These people are target to kidnappers who hold them to ransom and demand huge amounts of money for their buyback. The tragic part is that some kidnapped victims are been killed if no concrete agreements was reached between the kidnappers and their negotiator while some end up spending several years in hostility. The candid fact is that nothing can totally eliminate risk of being kidnapped but here are some tips on how to avoid or escape kidnap.

Erase the notion that you can’t be kidnapped; over-confidence had made a lot fall victims of kidnappers, when you develop the euphoric attitude that nothing can happen, that is when you become victim, you must always be cautious and vigilant.

Avoid Isolation; an isolated target is easier to kidnap than when in group, avoid walking on a lonely road alone and if you must trail the road make sure it’s in the company of trusted people. Hostage takers would need to work extra hard to kidnap members of a group.

Personal Evaluation; this is very important especially when in a new environment, personal evaluation of who you are, your destination, and how others might perceive your person when you get there can make a huge difference. Keep a low profile and dress modestly, flashy cloths and expensive jewelries that will naturally draw unnecessary attention to you so is not advisable. Try blending with others as quick as possible and when offended, avoid threatening or offensive comments.

Caution Alcohol Intake; kidnappers will break no sweat in capturing a drunk potential victim; avoid getting intoxicated when at bars or clubs or restaurants if at all you must patronize. The effects of alcohol can draw unnecessary attention to you and even make you less alert to your surroundings. In addition, don’t accept drinks, cigarettes, gums, or food from anyone you are not familiar with.

Avoid Repeated Pattern of Activities; avoid repeated routines at the same time every day so as not to become predictable. Frequently visited locations should be routed differently, avoid eating at the same restaurant at a particular time of the day, consider changing hotels, avoid walking straight to your house if you notice some irregularities.

Careful of Transportation; take buses and taxis at legitimate parks and avoid taxis with passenger(s) already in the car as this could be a tricky conspiracy. Avoid trips to rural and unfamiliar areas if new to the environment, and if compulsory, don’t go alone and inform trusted friends, relatives, or colleague about your where about and when expected to return.

Be Swift and Smart, Not Scared or Timid; when confronted with a potential predator, immediately your response shows that you are scared or timid then your actions become predictable, and that is exactly how they predicted you to be, but when you play smart, you would become unpredictable. You need to know that all rules have changed when confronted so you can do anything to secure your safety and also do anything to get attention; break bottles, scream hard, break glasses, throw chairs, stone or anything just to get attention.

Use of Cell Phone; let your cell phones work for you and not against you, there are dos and don’ts as regards cell phones especially when in a new environment. Don’t get too engulfed interacting with your phone at the expense of happenings around you, don’t wear headphones if not familiar with the place.
