Microdermabrasion, ever heard that word before? Probably. But do you even know what it is? It is true that there is a procedure called micro dermabrasion. It is a cosmetic treatment in which the face is sprayed with exfoliant crystals to remove dead epidermal cells. It is a method for improving the nature and texture of the skin on the face. And yes! It is one of the best methods discussed with a dermatologists.

Why Should I Do Microdermabrasion?

You can do microdermabrasion at home. It is the cheapest and requires that you do it daily/weekly. However, the devices used at a dermatologist’s have larger motors and more power. They penetrate deeper into the skin to deliver precise exfoliation.

Though, in-office treatments are expensive, the treatments are often scheduled at 1-2 months interval. In-office treatments are also safe because they are carried out by experts.

A spa treatment may be good as well. The only issue is – do they sterilise their instruments? While treatments at the dermatologist’s are carried out with precise care and sterilised instruments; it might not be the same at a spa.
If you must do it at a spa, ensure their instruments are properly sterilised to avoid you getting an infection.

Is Microdermabrasion Painful?

No! Your skin may get red after the procedure for a few hours, a calming moisturizer settles that. If your skin is highly sensitive [dermatographism], an oral antihistamine may help reduce the reaction. Microdermabrasion smoothes the skin, evens skin tone and helps clear whiteheads faster. But it does not clear wrinkles, dark brown spots, growths and redness.
