The Nigeria Customs is the 2nd revenue generating agency after NNPC, the govt through CEMA (Customs & Excise Management Act) empowers Nigeria Customs to take 7% of the total revenue generated that's a lot of money, almost a budget of a state for example in 2014 Customs generated a total of N977.09Billion, 7% of this amount is almost N70 billion naira, and the officers are very few, less than 25,000 officers.. But the leaders end up mismanaging the the money, and the workforce officers end up receiving pea-nuts @ the end of the month as salaries, no allowances of any kind, Customs officers earned the lowest salaries among all the Paramilitary, military and police in Nigeria, not to even talk about revenue generating agencies no wonder an average customs officer is currupt owing to the fact that no one notices all their efforts... Even though the new CG Col Hamid Ali promise to look in to most of the loopholes.
