Nature of the paper

ACCA F5 Paper (Performance Management) builds on topics that you have learnt at F2 (Management Accounting). It goes beyond merely churning out calculations. Rather, you need to be able to make informed decisions based on the information you are given.

Structure of the paper

There are two sections to the exam –

Section A will comprise 20 multiple choice questions of 2 marks each;

Section B of the exam comprises three 10 mark questions and two 15 mark questions.

The two 15 mark questions will come from decision making techniques, budgeting and control, and/or performance measurement and control areas of the syllabus. The Section A questions and the other questions in section B can cover any areas of the syllabus.

There are 3 hours for the exam, plus 15 minutes of reading time.

Overall, approximately 50% of the exam involves calculations, and approximately 50% is written.

Tips for preparing adequately for Paper F5
•You will be required to answer all questions. This means you must cover the entire syllabus. There is no shortcut here.
•Watch F5 video lectures on www.opentuition.com free of charge. The F5 tutor is fantastic
•Practise tons of exam-styled questions. You need to buy a revision kit from an approved tuition provider such as KAPLAN or BPP. Solve ALL the questions in the kit.
•Read all the technical articles on paper F5. The examination team usually use the student accountant to communicate with students. Always be on the look out!

Exam day tips
• Try to get to the venue of the exam as soon as possible. Lagos traffic is unpredictable.
•Use your reading time efficiently. Decide the order in which you want to tackle the questions.
•Go for the easy marks first. Some MCQs are simpler than others. Answer the questions you can easily solve first.
•Do not spend a very long time on a part of any question. Doing so would probably earn you few marks and make you lose several easy marks.
•Allocate your time wisely. Many candidates fail ACCA exams because they could not make proper use of the available time.
•Think clearly before you select the answer to any MCQ. Those questions could be tricky!
•Answer plans for the longer questions will help you to focus on the requirements of the question and enable you to manage your time effectively – but there will not be much time.
•Answer all parts of the longer questions. Even if you cannot do all the calculation elements, you will still be able to gain marks in the discussion parts.

Thanks for reading. I wish you the best in your forthcoming exam
