Sam was the preacher in one of the mainstream churches in Lagos Nigeria. He had been running a hectic week of prayer meetings and he planned on a Sunday of preaching before he went home to relax. Alas that was not to be the case as midway into the Sunday service, a healthy looking Pastor Sam suddenly clutched his chest and before his members could say amen, he was on the floor of the alter, apparently dead.
His members were quick to label his death as the function of voodoo powers against his ministry.
The autopsy had a different report actually.
It was seen that Sam died of a cardiac arrest secondary to hypertension.
He had been living with the condition for a while now, unknown to him and consequently unmanaged.
Hypertension, also variously referred to as high blood pressure is a condition characterized by a persistent increase in the blood pressure above the normal values.
In many people, it goes undetected and therefore fatal, but if detected early enough it can be properly managed though not completely cured.
The condition is so widespread that experts have actually said that if we all live long enough, we will all come down with hypertension.
To ensure that we are well protected however, there are a number of measures including regular exercise, appropriate diet, as well as regular check ups.
The disease has been termed the silent killer because victims are not usually aware of its existence until it becomes too late.
So in order to be on the safe side,
healthits urges you right now to go check your blood pressure and consult your healthcare provider for quality care and management.
Have yourself a healthy day.
