W.H.O. reports presume that between 100 and 140 million girls and women in the world are estimated to have undergone one form of FGM procedure or the other, and 3 million girls are estimated to be at risk of undergoing the procedures every year.

With these significantly huge statistics, I tend to wonder if the suggested consequences of FGM (which are only probable) are likely to reduce the continued occurence of this act.

The term 'Mutilation' suggests that the activity is 'barbaric'.

Is this really so??
