Opencart is an easy and very functional ecommerce platform, In Opencart, there is some layout flexibility allowing you to build layout your way and assign module to any position in the layout. In this tutorial, we will show you how to add module to a layout and assign it to a position in the layout.

You will be guided by the following steps to learn how to add a module and assign it to a layout position

1. Install and configure module.
This can be done from Extensions > Modules, select the module you want to configure: enable it so that it can be shown in front-page.
Fo the purpose of this tutorial, let us select the banner module as its already installed so I just need to configure it by clicking the “configure” button.
Now, you need to save the module setting and we move to next step.

2. Assign Module to a position in specific layout.
In Opencart 2.0 and above, all layouts are stored in: System > Design > Layouts
In this page, you would see list of layouts available in your Opencart system. Select the layout you want to customize.

Now, add new module, assign “Banner” module that we created in step 1 and assign position for the Banner module in the Home layout and save the settings.


Click on “Save” button in the top right corner when you have completed settings of the layout. It means that the Banner module has been enabled in the Home layout.

You can follow these steps to assign positions to the other modules in the layout.
