You probably have read about and heard tales about the negative effects of excessive alcohol on the human body, but what you may not have heard about is the many benefits of moderate consumption of beer.

According to medical researchers and nutritionists, beer, if consumed moderately has more benefits than most people know: drinkers live longer, it’s all-natural, low in calories, low in carbohydrates and has no fat or cholesterol, improves cholesterol, contains B vitamins, prevents heart attacks, fights cancer and doesn’t give pot belly.

To further highlight and discuss the many benefits of beer, a team of medical researchers, nutritionists and communication specialists will come together at the Beer & Lifestyle Symposium, holding on November 24, 2015 at the Intercontinental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

To lead the panel of experts at the symposium will be Professor Henk F.J. Hendriks from the Netherlands whose extensive work and research span biomedical aspects of moderate alcohol consumption, weight management, nutrigenomics, nutrition and coronary heart disease risk factors, functional food claim support and novel food safety evaluation. Other panelists that would be at the lifestyle symposium are: Tola Atinmo, a Professor of Human Nutrition at the University of Ibadan; Mrs Dolapo Coker, a Nutrition Consultant and Retired Director Food and Drugs Services, Federal Ministry of Health; Prof. Emevwo Biakolo, an erudite scholar, communications specialist and researcher and Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Lawyer and media personality.

To make the conversation at the event more robust, a panel of discussants have also been invited to the symposium: Dr. Kunle Hamilton (Veteran Journalist), Mr. Tunde Babalola (Script Writer/Producer), Ms Abimbola Ajileye (Lawyer), Dr. Tobore Agbogidi (Medical Doctor), OhimaiAtafo (Fashion Designer) and Mr. Kunle Bakare (Publisher, Encomium Magazine).

The Beer and Lifestyle Symposium is powered by Star, the flagship brand of beverage industry leader, Nigeria Breweries Plc and it is one of a series of programmes expected to promote the health benefits of moderate beer consumption in Nigeria.
