Otun Olubadan Dies, Buried in Ibadan…

The city of Ibadan has lost
another High Chief in the
Olubadan-in-Council, as the
Otun Olubadan of Ibadan
land, Omowale Kuye, died
late on Thursday at the
University College Hospital,
Ibadan, aged 87. He was
buried in his house at Ikolaba
area of Ibadan on Friday
according to Islamic rites.
His death came two weeks after the death of Balogun of
Ibadan land, High Chief Sulaimon Omiyale, who until his
death was next in line to the throne of the Olubadan. Kuye
was the highest ranking high chief in the Otun Olubadan
chieftaincy line, but with his demise, Osi Olubadan of
Ibadan land, High Chief Lekan Balogun, will assume the
vacant position, while former governor of Oyo State and
Ashipa Olubadan, Rashidi Ladoja, will fill the position that
Balogun will be vacating.
First son of the former Director-General, Special Duties in
the Office of the Presidency, Demola Kuye, said his father
died of old age-related illness around 11.20 pm on
Thursday at the UCH, where he was rushed to around
7.30pm same day.
The burial rite of the late Kuye was conducted by the Chief
Imam of Ibadan land, Sheikh Abdul-Ganiyu
Agbotomokekere, with the Chairman of Kakanfo Inn and
Conference Centre, Dr. Lekan Are, present.
Also present at the event were the wife of the deceased,
Priscila; his children; Ashipa Balogun of Ibadan land, High
Chief Olufemi Olaifa, who represented the Olubadan, Oba
Samuel Odulana; Mogaji Aboderin family, Chief Olutunde
Aboderin; Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Moses Alake; Osi
Olubadan, High Chief Lekan Balogun; Ekerin Olubadan, High
Chief Eddy Oyewole; Ekarun Olubadan, High Chief Kola
Daisi; President, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Chief
Yewande Akinwande; former president of the association,
Chief Bayo Oyero; Iyalode of Ibadanland, Alhaja Aminat
Abiodun; former Minister of Power and Steel, Elder Wole
Oyelese; Senator Soji Akanbi and other dignitaries.
In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Ibadan described Kuye as a faithful Muslim and a philanthropist who dedicated his life
to the good of mankind.
