Lies...... The highest denomination of a dollar currency is $100 and the man was acclaimed to have swallowed $115,00, that makes 1,150 currency notes(if the currency were in $100 notes); how on earth is it possible to swallow 1,150 notes. OP, check your link wella, I'm sure something is wrong somewhere, either the EFCC are daydreaming or the link is lying. undecided

Exactly my thoughts! All these bloggers can just conjure false and ridiculous stories just to get traffic so they can buy house in banana island.

Nigerians have been known as people who can do practically anything to get away from being prosecuted and Onwuasonya Augustine proved that notion right. He was charged to court on Tuesday by the EFCC for allegedly swallowing $115,000 to avoid declaring it to officials of the Nigeria Customs Service at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. He was arraigned along with five other alleged accomplices, Christian Okoli, Kingsley Nwokenta, aka Buchito, Nwokenta Emmanuel, Ezenwa Ikenna and Ezenwa Uzoma for the offence of money launderin.

The six were charged with four counts before Justice C.J. Aneke of a Federal High Court in Lagos. The agency alleged that Onwuasonya and the 5 others committed the offence on August 25, 2015, and were apprehended at Room 303 of a five-star hotel in Lagos. The sixth accused, Uzoma, was singularly charged with the offence of obstructing an NDLEA official, Bello Tsanya, in the discharge of his duty.

However, when the charges were read to the six accused in court, they all pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor said:

“In view of the plea of the accused, I respectfully pray the honourable court for a trial date to enable us bring our witnesses. However, I will also be praying that the accused persons be remanded in prison pending trial.”

But the counsel for the 1st to 5th accused, Mr. Victor Opara, told the court that he had filed bail applications on their behalf stating that the 2nd defendant had health challenges, which were being treated while he was in the custody of the EFCC.

I dont blame EFCC, i blame the stu!pid people that want to smuggle money that belong to them. Why not transfer thru the bank and pay commission? or go to Cotonou Mali, those guys transfer any amount to major cities in the world without bank involvement and very little commission.
How can someone have that kind of money and dont have common sense?

My thoughts too undecided very impossible but very likely EFCC and NDLEA etc are trying to cover up something. We will wait and see if de culprit nor cry for missing money. So no one could hold his throat? Or he did it before getting to the airport? grin

Naija banks no longer accept foreign currency deposits and as such they could not transfer same. Cotonou would have been the best option but you need to be beware of scammers.

Common sense can't be bought naaa grin

That aside, how on earth can a human being swallow $115,000? Is it physically or through jazz? The story doesn't add up.

Of course, they are lies, my dear, No national daily carried the news just one psycho posting on one evil website. And a psycho Nairaland Mod moved it to front page. Seems Nairaland is turning to gossip website. Fast losing credibility.

The accused swallowed such number of dollars and was arrested in his hotel, hotel?? Not at the airport??

How was it possible to swallow such number of dollars?

How did he swallowed all in an airport and still escaped arrest? It's an airport for crying out loud, not a mall or a hotel room.

How did they know he swallowed them in the first place?

What has NDLEA got to do with swallowing of money or money laundering?

There was no mention of EFCC yet the picture accompanying the news is that of EFCC.
