In Nigeria, the 60s 70s 80s era witnessed Farming before Education.Parents and families could cater for their wards before sending them to schools/colleges/Universities.Although most of these parents had no Jobs ,majority were peasant farmers.These had Money from Farming and could sponsor their wards throughout the duration of Academic works.Food was surplus,income exchange earnings made sure there was nothing like evil vices,social vices,rape,prostitution,unemployment and poverty.The basic needs of man of which Food is an important factor where met.
However, today all we have is educated hungry people multiplying. Education before Farming has proven to be the worst mistake the country has ever made.These are the following reasons educations has failed.
1)There is large acres of land lying fallow unused for Agricultural purposes,but large numbers of graduates who have finished their education keep roaming on the streets looking unemployed.Truth is if they had personal farms before going to school, feeding and housing won't be a problem ,but reverse is the case as governemt has taken much land for non agricultural use.
2)Food is becoming scarce.lack of food has brought man to make wrong decisions despite his education.Proffessionalism is thrown intothe bins when there is any chance to satisfy mans hunger. What i mean by hunger is not only hunger for food,but hunger for anything that makes man to progress.
3)we have lost the basic foundation.This means poverty is increasing and education is becoming more expensive whereas Lands are lying more fallow and wasted and then there is no foundation for sustenance.Money and job is not about everything for sustenance.whats the esscence of education when you cant sustain yourself off parents, government and benefactors??
4)We have lost our priority.This means though education is the best legacy, our departure from Agriculture has created a room for more poverty , those who have oil money keep getting richer while those who r educated but have no oil money ,d remaining masses r becoming poorer!!!!
5)If evey man had a farm before going to school, there would be less crime because it is their own property.No man can touch u for what u own, but today u can be touched for what you don't own. We never owned education in the beginning so we are touched with many needs , situations we dont own because we have left the foundation of what we Own=Agriculture.
6)Everyone thinks Farming is a poor mans job, but we can all struggle to be slaves in a white collar job, we can bear to be oppressed,used and dumped,not payed by what we seek to own.No one can hinder you from farming or not reaping what u dont sow but when u sow and u dont know what to reap is like education in its present state now.
Insecurity is on the rise:yes! An idle mind is the devils workshop,but an educated idle mind is like hellfire itself because it is volatile with sufferings, pains ,frustrations,pity,revenge and hatred .Hatred towards the Government of the day,hatred towards employers and others who continually opress the educated working force and graduates who have no job all roaming about feel like cursed people.we had a book with us before we started to open the book.the book came from where we came from but we didnt like it and now d book is no more useful.ie paper comes from trees in d farms.neglect of farming is like a wheel without axle.
So people retort to crime when they have exerted all their energy on education and it fails them!!
They become evil and destroy the book.
9)selfishness:education without farming brings selfishness because we dont have a conducive enviroment for learning. Do u expect people who passed through hell in their university days and hv become professinals to be caring, loving or merciful to their oppressors? There is transfer of agression everywhere.professionals today r masters in crime ''you can't give what you dont have to the society who takes what u have from you.
10)Hunger: education has created more hunger than farming.educational seasons r the worse in Nigeria.Farming seasons r not as worse as education inNigeria.
11)High rate of unemployment:The number of youths keep multiplying and the labour market is over capacitated.But land keeps wasting away and we keep complaining because we r blinded by democracy and the National cake ''oil'' .
12)overreliance on leaders:truth is if every youth had their farms,wealth from agriculture, before they ent to schools,no one would give a damn about any stupid politician or governor.No one would become stooges of any leader or be used.But today, education has created guillibility of aspirations without foundation.
