E! News is best known as the home for reality stars such as the Kardashians and showbiz gossip but the US network is about to put the spotlight on another type of celebrity. Nigerian singer D'banj is the subject of a forthcoming news feature as part of the entertainment channel's Africa Special edition.

Announcing the exclusive interview on Instagram, the 35-year-old, whose real name is Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo, shared a snapshot of the promo for the show. The caption read: "Catch a Brand New E! News Special Thursday Dec 17th at 20:00 on channel 124 and learn the true story behind me, The KokoMaster @ENews."

D'banj catapulted to fame in 2005 following the release of his debut album, No Long Thing. With global hits including Fall In Love and Suddenly, he has often been credited with revolutionising the Nigerian music scene. In 2011, he was named best international act (Africa) at the BET Awards.

His TV special, which is set to air on 17 December at 8pm, will mark the first time a Nigerian artist has been featured on E! News. The news has already garnered a positive response from the online community, with one fan writing: "I'm definitely not going to miss this!"

In October 2014, the Oliver Twist singer was appointed the official African ambassador for Beats by Dre. As the spokesman for the headphones giant, he has fronted a series of advertising campaigns. The star is also Nigeria's first United Nations Youth Ambassador for Peace.

December promises to be a memorable month for the African pop star, who will kick off his Koko Tour in Nigeria on 18 December, with shows in Owerri, Abuja and Lagos. His string of performances are part of his elaborate celebrations after achieving 10 years in the music industry.
