A brother of mine was among the candidates of the just concluded WAEC G.C.E. ANd he did very well.
He want to study psychology and have searched for somethings about it on search Engines.
All the things he searched aren't usefull without your help.
These are my questions:
1.What subjects will he take in Jamb?
2.Which university is the best for him to choose?
3.What is the Jamb Caught off mark for psychology?
4.[b]How many years will he use in university
?
5.Which places can he work after finishing at university?
6.what O. Level subject did he need?
7.Your experience when you were studying thesame course?
8.What are the uses of psychologist in our environment?
I WILL BE GRATEFULL TO YOU ALL

University of Jos because that's the only university in Nigeria where General and Applied Psychology is taught.

I don't know about the combination for JAMB but I'm sure he must write biology.

Job opportunities for psychologists exists in every field where human beings are found.

Love a psychologist today!!!

We are behavioral engineers!!!

Right, I'm gonna make it simple by breaking it down for clearer understanding.

A psychologist is a specialist or professional who observes, study, rehabilitate, reform human behaviour in order to re-integrate him to fit in the society, He's a specialist doctor for mental health.

A complex definition of it is, A professional psychic who hacks into human mind to re-intergrate them back to social norm.

1- Jamb subject connotes subjects like Maths, English, Government and commerce/Accounting/Economics.

2- Basically its hard to tell because psychology is like another social science department in the faculty of social sciences, However, I'm currently in UNIBEN and psychology doesn't even have a dept here, its often done as borrowed course, other schools might have it as a dept but might not be so specialised with it like how you know UNIBEN for Medicine and Law as well as OAU for Engineering.

3- on the Average 200 down to 180 but it depends largely on the school you opting for, If federal universities 200 is minimum while state universities 180 to 200.

4- 4 years (funny how your number 4 question tallies with the answer which is 4)

5- After graduation, He can work anywhere when human can be found such as hospitals, companies, schools, police investigation dept, etc and can even have his own consultation office just like the private hospitals you see around.

6- Either that of waec/Gce or Neco

7- somewhat Yes and No, I'm currently studying Social Works in Uniben, SocialWorks encompasses psychology or you can call it advance psychology because we study psychology, Law, sociology, philosophy, Anthropology, Economics&Statistics etc all in one bascially making us more advanced. I'm proud to be a social worker.

8- Truth is psychology isn't that prevalent in Nigerian, people are interested in getting the degree just to make ends meet by working anywhere the find themselves.
However, With psychology you would be smarter than the average mind because its like you studying human being and their behaviour to your benefit and also beneficiary if the skill is being utilized as full time job. Why and how?

The doctor needs you to ascertain the mental state of his patient, the psychiatrist home needs you, the Remand homes and prisons needs you to rehab already convicted criminal, the media house needs you to read people body language etc. Oppss I forgot to add, you 'd also be needed to solve lots and lots of relationships, family and sex issues because you a profession.

Modern psychology goes really deep. Some of them even use free email psychic readings at http://realpsychicreadings.online/free-email-psychic-readings/ as a part of their therapy. It's 2018, people are using a lot of methods.

Psychology is a very wonderful course, the only thing is that it is not well appreciated and developed here in Nigeria
1. It depends on the school. for instance, here in UNN, Biology is compulsory, so it's English, biology & any other two subjects
2. university of Nigeria Nsukka. It will interest you to know that it's the first Nigerian university to have a department in psycholoy.
3. It's still the general cut off mark (180).
4. Four years. During these four years general psychology will be taught, so if he wants a career in psychology, he definitely has to go for post graduate studies.
5. Anywhere from schools, hospitals, law enforcement, etc
6.Maths, English, biology etc. Still depends on his choice institution.
7. Still an undergraduate in psychology and I can tell you its been a very wonderful experience.
8. Simply put, psychology has a lot of uses in our environment since it studies human behaviour it means we can be able to predict, describe, & even control human behaviour for the betterment of man.

Hope this was a bit helpful.

Is any school in Nigeria offering Counseling psychology at the undergraduate level and Child and adolescent counselling in the Masters level?

As for the undergraduate level, most of the Nigerian unis offer only general psychology. The other related course I know is guidance and counselling. Then I only know of developmental psychology (which could encompass childhood and adolescence) at the PG level. But I'll try to find out the courses offered at PG level in my school.

Thanks for the info, just wish B. A Counselling psychology is available as against what you noted is being offered, hoping we get to soon offer that so that right from the first semester one knows he is training to be a psychotherapist.

Looking forward to knowing what is being offered at the PG level.
