Transportation Minister, Chibuike Amaechi, has appointed Engr
(Dr) Anthony Anayo Ishiodu asActingRector,Maritime Academy
of Nigeria Oron.
Sources at the academy told this medium on condition of
anonymity that Ishiodu received a letter of appointment
yesterday from the ministry directing him to oversee the
affairs of the academy pending the appointment of a
substantive Rector by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Ishiodu, who until his appointment was Head of Department
for Marine Engineering at the academy has put in over two
decades in the service of the academy.
He had served as Chief Lecturer;holds Chief Marine
Engineering Certificate, Post Graduate Diploma in Shipping
Technology and Mechanical Engineering, MSc Transport
Geography, M.Tech Mechanical Engineering with a PhD in
Transportation and Industrial Studies.
Meanwhile,the minister said the chains of negative news
stories that trailed the late Rector of the academy, Joshua
Okpo few weeks before his death, were sponsored by NIMASA
.
While on a recent visit to Lagos Amaechi told a gathering of
NIMASA staff and the media that he never ordered for any
probe of the academy under Okpo or threatened to sack the
late Rector.
“I never said I will probe MAN, Oron rector. I was surprised
when I saw in the papers that I said I will probe the Oron
Rector. All I said to the Oron Rector was that N19bn is too
heavy for you not to have built a standard university.
The Minister said he only ordered that the rector should cross
check from his office before making any further spending on
the academy.
“I only told the rector that from today henceforth dont spend
any money without getting clearance from my office but
because he is having fight with NIMASA, they said I said I will
probe rector of MAN, Oron. I have been a governor and I know
when news is sponsored. Unfortunately, the man is dead and I
sympathize with the family and I have directed the Permanent
Secretary to visit the family,”

SMH @the new minister. Why is he so interested in "you will probe, I will not probe" news? Is probing now illegal? Why the noise?
