Some residents of Zaria, Kaduna state on Saturday alleged
that the Islamic Movement in Nigeria otherwise known as
Shiite had subjected them to untold hardship in the past 20
years.
Addressing a news conference in Kaduna, spokesman of the
group, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Baba said the Shiites had
held residents of Zaria and Sabon Gari local government
areas hostage with impunity by allegedly operating a
parallel government.
Although he described the recent killing of members of the
recent in a recent clash with the Nigerian army as
unfortunate, he called on the Federal Government to
urgently call the Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky-led movement
in their communities to order in the interest of peace and
stability.
According to him, sometimes in May 2015, 24 youths in the
Gyellesu area of Zaria where Sheikh Zakzaky is resident,
were declared persona non grata for daring to challenge
impunity being allegedly perpetrated by members of the
sect.
Narrating the ordeals of residents of Zaria in the hands of
the sect members for over 20 years, Baba alleged that some
point the sect members even threatened to kill him.
“As a community, we wrote letters to the government about
ungodly activities of Shiites but no single action was taken.
We no longer report Shiites to police because they will never
honour police or security invitation. They are authority unto
themselves, they don’t respect authority, security and so on.
“We are Muslims but we discovered that, Shiites activities
are contrary to Islam. They carried dangerous weapons
openly molesting innocent people in our areas. Human
Rights groups should also look into our pains by the sect”,
he added.
Also speaking during the press conference, one of the elders
in Gyellesu area, Alhaji Saidu Garba, said economic and
social activities in the area were crippled because the Shiite
members will not tolerate anything contrary to their beliefs
and doctrine.
“After El-Zakzaky was released from detention in 1999, he
came and settled in Gyallesu since then there is no peace in
our area. We thank Allah for touching the heart of
government and the military for liberating us from Shiites
untold hardship.
“Shiites killed many of our people who challenged their
activities, we buried them and we cannot talk to the world
because of their threat. We were living like slaves in our own
land which Shiite leader, Sheikh El-Zakzaky came and met
us.
“We residents of Gyallesu are calling on the Federal
government to ban Shiite movement in our community and
Kaduna state as a whole. Government should put a stop to
Shiite’s ungodly activities in our area”, he said.
The Zaria community also made available documents dated
18th May, 2015 in which the Shiites declared some youths
persona non grata. The document was signed by Secretary
of Gyallesu Elders Forum, Alhaji Mukhtar Gambo,
A copy of another letter of complaint to the Emir of Zazzau
by the Gyallesu community against alleged impunity by
Shiite, dated May 20, 2013 and several petitions to the
authorities were also made available to journalists during
the press conference.

Please don't pretend to be naïve of what's on ground, I was felt the military had to open fire due to obvious arms with this zakzay guys. Just days after the incident zakzays guys still open fire to scare people in tudun wada area of zaria.
