A divorce-seeking pastor, Mr. Affiom Obeten Ojugo, has lost his bid to dislodge his estranged wife, Mrs. Taiwo Monsurat Ojugo, from her matrimonial home.

Even though the marriage was dissolved, a Lagos High Court ruled that the woman should continue living in the house, until she contracts another marriage. The court also restrained the petitioner from selling the house or subletting it to a tenant. Trouble started in 2007, when Mr. Ojugo, a computer engineer, filed a divorce suit before the court, urging it to dissolve the marriage on grounds of adultery and desertion of matrimonial home by his wife, since January, 2006.

Mr. Ojugo told the court that he is presently a missionary after he retired from Lion of Africa Insurance Company with a terminal benefit of N174,000, with which he built his matrimonial home. He disclosed that he built a shop for his wife to trade in ready-made clothes in Langbasa, adding that for the past two years, his wife has been collecting rent on the property. He prayed for the dissolution of the marriage because of reports of adultery committed by his wife which he received from people. He cited an occasion when she slept outside her matrimonial home.

In her cross petition, Mrs. Ojugo also called for the dissolution of the childless marriage, saying that it had broken down irretrievably. She accused her husband of deserting her and committing adultery with various women, adding that she found it intolerable to continue living with him. She prayed the court not to eject her from her matrimonial home and that the petitioner should be made to pay N10,000 for her upkeep, pending her rehabilitation. Mrs. Ojugo testified for herself and called two other witnesses, one Yekini Ishola Jimoh and Sara Ojugo, a girl who lives with the parties. They all testified that the respondent was not only a good woman, but also corroborated her testimony.

In her evidence, the respondent told the court that she got married to the petitioner on 9 August, 1997 and that together they built a three-bedroom home at 13, Oshun Layout, Langbasa, Ajah, Lagos. She disclosed that she sourced money from her relations to assist her husband in building the house. She denied allegations of adultery levelled against her by the petitioner. In her judgement, Justice Olusola Ajibike Williams explained that since the petitioner has no means of income and was not earning anything, he is not in a position to provide for the respondent or pay maintenance.

In the interest of justice, she stated, the respondent should receive a settlement from the petitioner. Following this, she upheld the prayers of the respondent and dismissed that of the petitioner. ”The respondent shall have the right to continue residing in the matrimonial home unless or until she contracts another marriage. ”The petitioner is hereby restrained from selling, renting or otherwise disposing of or dealing with the matrimonial home in which the respondent resides,” she ruled.

Which kind tales by moon light is that,,,if U check very well,,the pastor is probably not balanced mentally wise,,and the easiest way he wants to be relevant in life is to be a pastors and hopes to fly a jet someday,,,this is a good judgement by the court,,in Nigeria women have for long been taken for granted by irresponsible men,,,
when a man knows he can't take a woman for ride anymore,,,then Nigerian men would start respecting their wives or woman,,,
