This post is a series that intend to educate readers and website owners on how to create unique data-driven visual content for their website or marketing campaign.

The internet has virtually changed almost everything as we knew it. Information can now be exchanged at the speed of light and ideas can be shared with anyone across the vast space of the Earth so far they have access to internet. These days, any individual can create a website often at very little cost. However, while it is easy to create a website, sharing quality content with your readers is no easy task. There are different types of contents, and it all depends on your niche and why your readers visit your site. Among the different types of content, visual content is way ahead since the human brain is programmed to transmit information visually, meaning that 90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual and that visual information is processed about 60,000 times faster than textual information. So, it is not surprising that more people will respond better to visual information than plain text. Likewise, it is proven that posts with videos or graphics attract more views than plain text posts. So, good quality visual content will most likely have positive impact on your website conversion and online marketing strategy.

We are in the era of data explosion as different types of information are being generated at a faster rate than we can organize and manage them, most especially in a place like Nigeria. To compound this problem for Nigerians, those who are responsible for creating and sharing information often hoard information for obvious reasons. While legislative instruments have been created at the federal level to promote access to information, there are challenges to accessing public information at the state and local level. In spite of these problems, there is enough information to create great visuals for your website if you are ready to roll up your sleeves and if you are committed to standing out among the crowd.

One of the reasons why big media organisation like New York Times and the UK Guardian continue to stand out is due to innovation in story-telling. Now compare the content in the two links below; which would you prefer to spend your time on? Forget the fact that information in any one of the links does not have any connection to you.

One of the site above had good enough information and it presented them in ways that readers can easily grab and digest. While the other also had good enough information but choose to churn out numbers in ways that people can hardly follow. So if you have the choice, time and resources, how would you have presented the information contained in the publication in the second link (i.e. The Nation Online). Would you have done it different? Share your thought.

Stay tune as I plan to visit this site to update this post and discuss types of ways to create data-driven visual content for your website or marketing campaign.
