10 Things You Should Never Post On Social Networks by KoboUP(m): 12:26am On Jan 07, 2016
Social media is all about transparency, sharing and being yourself, So, how can you protect yourself while still feeling like you can keep up with family and friends via Posts and Tweets?

Make sure these ten pieces of information never find their way onto your social media sites:

1). Your physical addressWhen you put your physical address on a profile for anyone to see, you’re essentially painting a big red “X” on your home and saying, “Here I am! Please come get me!” If you want to tell certain people where you live, that is fine and you can do so… privately.

Criminals look for easy targets. So, if you’re the type of person who isn’t safety minded enough to keep your location off the internet then you’ve already made it through their first set of criteria. And, if you’ve been kind enough to post pictures of the layout of your home, you just became their dream victim.

2). Your Current Location
Many people don't realize that when they post a status update or a tweet, they may also be revealing their current location. Giving out your location information can be dangerous because it tells potential thieves that you might not be at home.

Depending on your privacy settings, that innocent tweet from your vacation spot might give the bad guys the green light they were waiting for to rob your house.

3). Pictures of Your Kids or Friends Tagged With Their Names
We all want to protect our kids, we would lay down in front of a truck to protect them, but many of us post hundreds of name tagged pictures of our children online for the world to see.

The problem is that you can never be sure that only your friends are seeing these pictures. What if your friend has their phone stolen or logs into Facebook from the library and forgets to log out? You can't rely on the "Friends only" setting because you really never know.

If you must post pictures of your children, remove any geotag information, and avoid using their real names in the picture tag or description.

4). Your Phone Number
There are creepy, disturbed people out there on the Internet with ill intentions and bad manners. They are called telemarketers. Don’t feed the telemarketers. Especially after midnight. Sort of like Gremlins.

5). Your kid’s school information
Being a proud parent, you want to boast and celebrate your kids victories at school. You want to share with the world this great human being that you call your son or daughter.

However, the more information you release about your child, the more you put them at risk from predators. Sick people find ways to learn as much as they can about the children they’re about to victimize. That way, they can locate them easier and when they do, they can befriend them because they already know all about their interests, hobbies and activities. So, be careful what you post about your child and try to keep it as vague as possible.

6). When you’re going to be out of town
Sure you’re excited about your upcoming week long vacation to the tropics, but sharing this sort of information not only tells a career burglar when your home is available, but it gives them time to plan. They know that they can take their time because they have a full week to come and go from your residence as they please.

7). Anything illegal
It’s amazing how many people violate this every day. They post pictures of them and their friends doing illegal drugs and everything else you can imagine. They think it’s funny, but the reality is that if they’re ever busted for any of these types of activities, they’re just making the legal case against themselves that much stronger.

cool. A naked selfie
If you’re a A list celebrity taking nude pictures of your self in the bathroom with your iPhone for your PR firm to leak to the media that’s fine. Otherwise, not cool.

9). Relationship Status
Want to give your stalker the green light they've been waiting for while simultaneously letting them know that your more likely to be home alone? Posting your relationship status is the surest way to accomplish this. If you want to be mysterious, just say "It's Complicated".

10). Information About Your Current Job or Work-related Projects
Talking about work-related things on social networks is a bad idea. Even an innocent status update about how mad you are about missing a deadline on a project could provide valuable information to your competitors that they could leverage against your company.
