A Short Story: Strategy Surpasses Power - A Must Read by Jackter101(m): 8:57am On Jan 08, 2016
Adekunle was a brilliant naïve SS 2 boy who was the talk of the class amongst SS2 girls as he neither fancied their company nor was exposed enough to handle their antics. He decided to keep to himself and face the only thing he knows how to do best; academics.

Not too long after the first term exam, Adekunle was approached by a girl named Adeola. Adeola was brave enough to express her feelings toward him. Kunle being the naïve guy didn’t know how to handle such situation, and decided to tell her to back off. This didn’t deter the girl’s efforts at all as she kept coming back stronger.

When Kunle realized that this particular girl was hell-bent on being his friend at least, he soft pedaled and decided to see how things would go. Even though he was not a fan of Adeola at all, as Adeola was playful and unserious and was always bottom in art class.
As days rolled by, Adeola began boasting to the girls in school that she is Adekunle’s girlfriend. “ I am the most brilliant boy in SS2’s girl” she would say anytime she wants her friends to get jealous.

So one day, when Adekunle was heading home after school, he got approached by 3 hefty guys, who told him that their leader wanted to see him. He was shocked, afraid and frozen. He had never experienced such before. He followed the guys and got to a shed where one lanky looking sun burned guy was seated with other guys holding sticks. Immediately Adekunle saw him, he figured out he was their leader.

The leader said, “So this is the rat that is competing with me for my girl”, startled Adekunle was like “I don’t understand”, Then the leader continued “you are too tiny for me, just one warning, leave Adeola alone”, Adekunle was about to explain himself when the lanky guy continued, “If I have to come back here a second time you won’t like yourself”. Adekunle still jittering said, “okay sir”. As he turned to leave, he saw Adeola running towards him, with her heavy chest bouncing up and down. Way too huge for an SS2 girl. Then to his surprise, Adeola knelt down and started begging this scary looking guy who just scared the living day out of Kunle.

It was then Kunle realized that Adeola was actually this “Tout’s girlfriend. Seeing this, Kunle distanced himself from Adeola in coming weeks and decided to do his own investigation. He later found out that a classmate of his was this “Leader’s” younger brother and was the informant. A class mate named Tase, who gullibly or intentionally as Kunle interpreted it carried the news that Kunle is now dating his brother’s girlfriend. After all He couldn’t really blame this class mate of his, as it was all Adeola’s fault.

Innocent Kunle then decided to revenge, at least get back at Tase, for dragging his name and reputation through the mud. Kunle knew he had no one to fight for him, and could not stand Tase’s brother and gang, even though he was sure he could beat Tase on a one-on-one battle. He wasn’t ready to risk another round of Tase’s brother’s fury.

So Kunle waited for the perfect time to revenge, and this time never came until the GSCE external exams where a couple of students in SS2 decided to try their luck before the final WASSCE in SS3.

On a particular day, It was the day to write mathematics exam, a couple friends of Kunle were approached by a group of boys at their exam center and they were beaten up. One of Kunle’s friends, Jibola, who managed to escape unscathed was furious and boiling with the urge to revenge, as he had older brothers who could back him up.

When Kunle heard of this story, He decided to use it to his advantage, and went to Jibola with a claim that Tase’s brother’s gang was behind the attack, and that he was very sure. Jibola who was still very mad, decided to wait till after school hours and approached Tase. Tase obviously didn’t know what he was talking about, but Jibola wasn’t ready to have any of that. He pounced on him immediately and beat the living day out of Tase. He even did it to the point that he asked him to call his brother, to come and fight for him. Tase was beaten blue black and Kunle smiled home finally having his day after 6 months of long wait.

What do you think of Kunle’s method of getting back? Do you think Tase deserved it? Is that wisdom or deceit? Drop your comments and let us know what you feel.
